LA UTI

I found this EP on vinyl while doing some Christmas shopping last night. This album can only be described as 'thick'. It embodies the notion of 'gimme pizza slow'. And Doseone is featured on one track. All in all, some wonderful nastiness from our dear friend TOBACCO.

Little Life, How Did You Be So Lucky?

Short and sweet, reminiscent of the great Karen Dalton, Vashti Bunyan, and Jolie Holland.

This album in particular is very folky with simple vocals, while her other albums have more experimental jazz vocals with more complex instrumentation.

This album is by far my favorite right now though because of its simplicity and the loveliness of her voice which just calls out to the little kid in me.

Stumble then rise on some awkward morning

I needed an answer. I needed a song.

I had the opportunity to see Lovers live last week, opening for the Akron Extended Family Yogic Flyers (equal parts Akron/Family, AU, and Why I Must Be Careful - with three drummers!) Anyhow, this band was a highlight with their dance-friendly drum and synth androgyny and the lovely female lead singer who oddly resembled Jonathan Richman. I've got to say that their live performance way outshines their recording, but 'Dark Light' is definitely worth a listen and you should certainly check this band out if they come through your town.

Turning On

A nice Lo-Fi gem heard at a friend's house recently. I can see why Cloud Nothings (Dylan Baldi) opened for Wavves in NYC recently. Here's a short article from Pitchfork.
